Préambule
Comme vous le savez, Funcom a organisé un évènement communautaire de quatre jours. Ils ont invité dix-huit personnes de sites internet différents à rejoindre leurs bureaux d'Oslo dans le but de nous parler de leur jeu. J'ai eu la chance de faire partie de ces quelques heureux élus. Laissez-moi vous conter mon aventure à travers un carnet de voyage plutôt amusant.

C'est dur de se lever à 6 heures du matin, même pour prendre l'avion direction Norvège (ironie quand tu nous tiens...) ! La simple pensée de pouvoir fouler le sol du pays où est né Age of Conan me réjouit et me donne la force de me réveiller. Grâce à ma volonté, j'ai pu arriver à l'heure à l'aéroport d'Orly.
Olric, du site « Mondes Persistants », et moi nous étions donné rendez-vous afin de prendre l'avion ensemble et de pouvoir ainsi faire connaissance. Me voici-ci donc à arpenter l'aéroport à la recherche d'un « homme possédant un sac kaki » d'après ses dires. Pas simple vu ce monde, mais je l'ai enfin trouvé !
Après échange de quelques mots de politesse, je me suis vite rendu compte que c'était un homme agréable et que je passerai un bon séjour en sa compagnie.
Nous voici donc partis pour trois heures d'avion en direction du pays nordique tant attendu. Une fois arrivés, nous croisâmes une tête familière tenant un panneau Funcom. « Crippius ! », notre fameux « community manager », était là pour nous prendre en charge, accompagné de Shannon.
Nous nous sommes assis autour d'une table, attendant les autres invitées qui ne devaient par tarder à arriver. Je crois que je vais me permettre de raconter l'anecdote du « chinois inconnu voleur d'appareil photo numérique » (Crippius, si tu lis cela, ne m'en veux pas :p).
Aparté
Tous assis autour d'une table ronde, les deux français accompagnés de Crippius attendaient patiemment la venue des autres personnes conviées à l'évènement. Une personne de type asiatique s'approcha de nous puis s'assit à la même table, sur une chaise proche de la mienne.
Une discussion peu discrète s'engagea alors à propos de cette personne étrange.
Crippius me demanda
« Tu le connais le gars ? »
Je rétorquai,
« Non, pas du tout, je pensais que tu le connaissais ! Il est venu s'assoir à notre table si naturellement. »
Crippius : « Il a l'air étrange, fait attention à ton appareil photo posé sur la table »
J'acquiesçai : « Tu as raison, je l'ai à l'oeil. »
Le pauvre exclut du groupe de trois personnes attendait lui aussi patiemment et fuyait nos regards. Je pris alors l'initiative de prendre mon appareil photo avec moi et de regarder étrangement l'homme seul. Olric, se posant la question du « pourquoi » on avait l'air étrange, nous questionna. C'est alors qu'il nous confirma que l'homme en question avait été accompagné avec Shannon et qu'il appartenait à la communauté. Un sentiment de honte accompagné de pitié nous emparra. Crippius engagea alors une discussion avec lui lorsque l'on se rendit compte qu'il ne parlait pas français et venait du Canada. « Ouf ! Il n'a pas pu comprendre ce qu'on s'est dit ...».
On décida de prendre le train en direction d'Oslo en petit comité et d'apprendre à se connaître un peu. Une discussion s'engagea avec Crippius et le Canadien.
Crippius : « Tu parles un peu français ? »
« Oui, répondit le Canadien, je comprends mais ait quelques difficultés à parler ! ».
Crippius me regarda désemparé avec un sourire aux lèvres souhaitant dire « On est passé pour de drôles de cons ». Je pense qu'il n'avait pas tort :p
Ma première impression une fois arrivé à Oslo fut « c'est propre bordel ! ». Pas un papier dans la rue, pas l'once d'un mégot ! Je ne pensais pas que c'était possible, ayant été habitué au paysage parisien après tout.
Direction l'hôtel, situé en plein cœur d'Oslo. J'ai été charmé par sa très belle façade. J'ai cependant été déçu de ma chambre, mais je ne vais pas m'en plaindre : je suis hébergé gratuitement après tout !
Quartier libre jusqu'à cinq heures, heure choisie pour le dîner. Ca sera l'occasion de faire connaissance. Je profite de ce temps libre pour aller me promener dans les rues piétonnes qu'Oslo nous offre et en voir un peu plus de cette ville inconnue.
Il faut croire que toutes les capitales se ressemblent ! Il manque à Oslo la neige, qui m'aurait permis de m'assurer que j'avais changé de pays. Hormis la langue des passants, les écrits des publicités et autres facades, ça ressemble étrangement à Paris, le froid en plus. C'est tout de même bien joli à visiter.
Cinq heures, ça y est ! On va enfin tous se rencontrer et pouvoir échanger nos pseudonymes (plus que nos prénoms !). Devant l'hôtel se trouvait un groupe de personnes ; Warcry, mmorpg.com, gamona.de, curse gaming et j'en passe ... je comprends vite que tous les plus gros portails étaient réunis. Tarib ainsi que Crippius nous prirent en main et nous amenèrent dans un pub se tenant juste à côté de notre hôtel pour y manger. Ma première bière de la soirée, tant redoutée pour un homme qui n'aime pas ça mais qui sait pertinement qu'il ne va cesser d'en boire. Nous avons alors abordé de mutliples sujets de discussions sur Age of Conan, nos vies respectives et le programme du séjour à venir.
Après le repas, j'appris que demain allait être une longue journée très intéressante, puisque c'est celle où il est prévu que nous visitions les bureaux de Funcom. Finalement, après un simple verre on va aller se coucher pour être en forme le lendemain pour tout voir.

Debout à 8h du matin, le rendez-vous étant fixé à 9 h. Pas de problèmes de réveil, puisqu'aujourd'hui je vais enfin voir les bureaux de Funcom et en apprendre un peu plus sur le jeu.
Me voici dans l'accueil à attendre patiemment qu'une personnne de Funcom daigne pointer le bout de son nez pour nous conduire jusque dans les locaux. Il semblerait qu'ils ne savent pas être à l'heure. C'est pas grave, aujourd'hui je suis capable de tout pardonner tant l'engouement est important.
Voilà qu'une femme se présente, elle nous prend en charge et nous montons dans un mini-bus. Après un trajet d'une dixaine de minutes, nous voilà enfin arrivés à destination. On rencontre Erling qui prend le relais pour effectuer avec nous les quelques mètres restants à pieds. Sur le chemin un cavalier croise notre chemin et se met à nous parler en anglais.
« Guerriers, suivez-moi au château du roi Conan mais il y a des forces ennemies qui nous y attendent, je ne pourrais pas les repousser longtemps. »
C'est alors qu'une fois arrivés au « château du roi Conan », deux mécréants sortent d'on ne sait où nous attaquer. Heureusement, notre noble protecteur pris la charge de s'en occuper et les évincer rapidement. Un peu plus tard, une belle jeune norvegienne sortit de derriere un mur ; c'était Keaira, l'héroine de la cinématique du jeu qui cherche à attaquer Conan.
Je vois que Funcom a mis les moyens pour nous épater et nous plonger dans l'univers ! Belle mise en bouche que l'on a pu tous apprécier. Ce n'était là que le prélude d'une longue journée caractérisant bien la folie de Funcom.
Erling nous fit entrer dans les bureaux. La bannière du jeu flottait dans le hall d'entrée de grande envergure. Nous sommes alors montés au dernier étage afin de rejoindre une salle de conférence où nous attendaient viennoiseries et boissons ainsi qu'un bel écran plasma accroché au mur. « Ah, ils savent recevoir dit donc ! ». On y rencontra Erling Elingsen, Jørgen Tharaldsen, Gaute Godager ainsi qu'un développeur. Ils nous remercièrent de nous être déplacés puis répondirent à une petite série de questions. L'ambiance était détendue et très bon enfant, tout le monde souriait, on se sentait « en famille ».
La conférence commenca. En guise de mise en bouche, on nous présenta sur le grand écran le nouveau site internet ainsi que la vidéo de leur moteur « Dreamworld ». Tout simplement bluffant !
Puis on nous présenta le système de récolte de ressources et d'artisanat qui était supposé être nouveau pour nous. Je ne dois pas cacher ma déception à ce propos, car ça n'était pas si nouveau que ça pour nous...
Nous fumes séparés en deux groupes pour procéder à la visite des bureaux. Nous avons rencontré pas mal de monde et vu beaucoup de choses dont je vous ai fait un rapport. Je ne vais donc pas les énumérer de nouveau ici. Une fois la visite finie, nous descendîmes manger un sandwich accompagné d'eau gazeuse qui a semble-t- il, fait râler pas mal de monde :))
Je dis râler, car peu de temps après s'être assis, voilà que Tarib se pointe avec de nombreuses boissons sucrées (dont je ne citerais pas les marques :p). C'était apparament à l'initiative de Crippius cette eau à bulles, toute la faute est donc mise sur lui ! (Ironie :))
Après ce court repas, direction une petite salle bien décorée pour l'occasion avec en son centre une série de PCs. Sur chaque ordinateur tournait Age of Conan et proposait une classe de joueur distincte. J'ai eu le privilege de jouer un Dark Templar ! Pas simple mais assez fun. Je vous renvoie à la section des « raids » du rapport d'Oslo pour plus d'informations sur le raid.
De multiple wipes plus tard, l'heure était venue de quitter le raid. Dommage, nous n'avons pas pu aller très loin dans le donjon. Il faut avouer qu'il est compliqué pour un joueur ne connaissant pas Age of Conan de se lancer dans un donjon avec un personnage niveau quarante.
Erling nous apprend qu'il va y avoir une session pvp et que nous auront l'opportunité de gagner un prix. Nous nous lançons donc dans le concours avec l'espoir de faire le maximum de tués (le gagnant est désigné au nombre de tués qu'il a fait). Vu qu'il n'a pas été possible de choisir nos classes, autant dire que le vainqueur serait forcément une classe faisant des dégats, et non une classe de healer :) Je n'ai donc pas eu le bonheur de jouer un bourrin, et je savais par avance que je perdrais. Pas grave, après tout le principal est de participer, puis je me suis bien marré :D
C'est pas grave, on se rattrapera sur les questions que l'on va avoir l'occasion de poser lors de la conférence de presse à venir.
Au passage sur la route de la salle de conférence, chacun prit une bière puis s'installa à son fauteuil. Funcom nous expliqua que tout allait être filmé et qu'il nous mettrait à disposition le film plus tard dans la semaine. Bonheur ! On pourra se souvenir de (presque) tout ce qui a été dit :)
Six personnes s'installèrent pour présider : Didrik Tollefsen (Art Director), Terje Lundberg (Combat Developer), Jayde aka Evan Michaels (System Developer), Gaute Godager (Game Director), Pål Frogner Hansen (Project Director), Erling Elingsen (Marketing). Je n'ai pu malheuresement poser que trois questions car on fonctionnait par roulement pour que tout le monde puisse en poser au moins une.
Une fois cette conférence achevée, nous remontâmes dans la salle de présentation pour récupérer nos affaires. On apprit qu'il y allait avoir un tirage au sort pour gagner des cartes Nvidia. Je trépignais rien qu'a l'idée de pouvoir avoir une geforce 8 dans les mains ! Mais la chance n'était une fois de plus pas au rendez-vous et les heureux élus furent les webmasters de mmorpg.com, curse gaming et warcry. En lot de consolation, on nous gratifia tous d'un superbe cadre représentant Keira signé de Gaute. Funcom nous a vraiment gâtés ! Quelle belle journée !
Ce fut ensuite malheureusement le temps de quitter les bureaux et de rejoindre l'hôtel. Juste avant de partir, les acteurs que l'on avait rencontré à notre arrivée nous attendaient à la sortie. Ils décernaient le prix pour les vainqueurs du jeu pvp.

Rien de spécial durant cette journée. Un levé plutôt tardif après une soirée fortement arrosée. Et une ballade dans les rues d'Oslo pour réaliser quelques clichés.

Retour à Paris dans l'après midi avec le sentiment d'avoir passé un très bon séjour en Norvège. Quel plaisir d'avoir pu rencontrer toutes les personnes travaillant chez Funcom !

Remerciement à toute l'équipe du jeu qui a pris soin de nous écouter, de prendre le temps pour nous. Remerciement spécial au « community manager » avec qui on a passé des excellentes soirées (j'en dirais pas plus, ça laisse place à l'imagination). A Shannon, pour s'être occupée de nos réservations, à Erling de nous avoir conduit tout au long de la journée, à Yorgen qui est un barjo à part entière mais génial ; mais aussi à Gaute.
On se sait chanceux d'avoir pu assiter à un évenement pareil et je remercie Funcom de m'avoir permis d'y participer. Pouvoir ainsi s'imiscer dans le berceau de ce chef d'œuvre et en découvrir quelques secrets, avoir l'occasion d'y jouer dans un tel cadre était un véritable honneur. Merci encore donc à Funcom d'avoir organisé une telle rencontre, qui prouve encore combien la communauté d'Age Of Conan est importante aux yeux de Funcom

Les combats sont vivants (sous-entendu, pas le temps de faire cuire son poulet basquaise en même temps que jouer) ou chiants à la WoW ?

Le jeu n'était pas plus beau qu'au SJV mais il faut dire que je n'ai toujours pas eu la chance de pouvoir y jouer sur Vista. Je pense que la réel différence graphiquement parlant se fera lorsque l'on changera d'OS. Cependant, les vidéos (comme toujours) qu'on a eu l'occasion de voir montrait un jeu sublime.
Niveau maniabilité, c'était assez compliqué car on a joué une fois de plus des personnages qui étaient déjà niveau 40 donc quand tu connais pas le jeu... C'est un peu plus compliqué. Par contre, ils ont repensé l'UI et elle est bien plus compréhensible maintenant.
La complémentarité des personnages a été dure à juger (cf. mes arguments ci dessus). Y'a une chose que j'ai pas accroché, c'est la gestion des collisions dans les instances. Quand t'es une classe au CaC, tu cours sans arret apres ton mob qui run comme un malade au travers toute l'instance et si, par malheur, déjà tous les autres CaC sont sur lui, tu trouves difficilement une place pour pouvoir lui tapper dessus.
Les combats sont assez vivant oui, mais j'ai pas réussi à jouer mon perso, donc je me suis fait assez chiez :p
